Define the Question

Start with a clear research question. Decide what you are trying to discover and what evidence could help answer it.

02 — ANALYZE

Examine the Evidence

Analyze DNA matches, relationships, clusters, segments, family trees and other evidence to develop useful hypotheses.

03 — DOCUMENT

Record Your Research

Keep track of evidence, hypotheses, research steps, negative searches, correspondence and discoveries as you work.

The Story Behind Genetic Voyage

Hi, I'm Peter.

I have spent over 30 years solving the ultimate mystery: Who am I, and where do I really come from?

My Swedish grandfather's father was unknown. On my Finnish side, my grandmother's father disappeared during the Finnish Civil War of 1918.

Solving these mysteries meant combining the paper trail with DNA analysis, triangulation and systematic investigation.

DNA can reveal clues. Records can reveal people. The real breakthrough often comes from putting the evidence together.

I created Genetic Voyage to share the methods, tools and research principles that helped me solve my own family mysteries.
