Privacy policy
Genetic Voyage is a website about DNA genealogy. This page explains, in plain language, how we handle your data when you visit www.geneticvoyage.com. The short version: we don't collect any. Everything you load into our tools is processed entirely in your own browser and never reaches our server. We follow the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and other applicable laws.
1. Who we are
Genetic Voyage is a website dedicated to DNA genealogy. We publish information and resources to help you explore your family history through DNA testing, and we offer browser-based tools that let you work with your own DNA data files.
Genetic Voyage is run by one person, and "we" on this page simply refers to the site. We are the controller of the personal data described in this policy. Since we do not actually collect any, that role is mostly theoretical — but questions are always welcome at info@geneticvoyage.com.
2. How our tools work
When you use one of our DNA tools, you pick a file from your own device. That file is read and processed entirely by JavaScript running in your browser. It is never uploaded, transmitted, copied or stored on our server.
Your DNA data never leaves your computer. We can't see it, and neither can anyone else through us. Close the tab and it's gone.
This is often called client-side processing. It is the reason this site can offer useful tools without asking you to trust us with something as personal as your genetic data.
3. Information we collect
None.
We do not ask for your name, email address, DNA results or any other personal information. There are no accounts, no sign-ups, no contact forms and no comment sections on this site. We do not use analytics, tracking pixels or advertising scripts.
The only way we would ever receive personal data from you is if you chose to email us directly — and then only what you put in that email.
5. Your rights under GDPR
Under the GDPR you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, object to and port your personal data, and to withdraw consent at any time.
Because we never collect or store personal data, there is nothing on our side to act on. If you believe we hold something about you anyway, email info@geneticvoyage.com and we'll look into it right away.
If you are not satisfied with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection, Integritetsskyddsmyndigheten (IMY), or to the supervisory authority in your own country.
6. Affiliate links
Today, Genetic Voyage does not take part in any affiliate programme and earns no commission from the links on the site.
In the future we may join affiliate programmes with DNA testing companies and similar services, to help pay for hosting and keeping the site running.
If that happens, we will:
- Mark every affiliate link clearly, so you know before you click.
- Only recommend products we would be comfortable recommending anyway. A commission never decides what we write.
- Update this section and list any new cookies or tracking that the partner uses.
Clicking an affiliate link would cost you nothing extra.
7. Security
The site is served over SSL-encrypted HTTPS. Because the files you load never leave your browser, there is very little on our side to protect. That is by design.
8. Third-party links
Our articles link to other websites, such as DNA testing companies and genealogy services. We are not responsible for how those sites handle your data, so please read their privacy policies before sharing personal information with them.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when our practices or the law change, for example if we start using affiliate programmes. The new version will be published here with a new “Last updated” date.
